Qatar is keen to host major sporting events and has already organized the World Athletics Championships over the past year, and is preparing to organize the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

"We have a desire to use sport to spread peace and cultural exchange, and this is the basis for our discussions with the committee," Qatar Olympic Committee Chairman Joan bin Hamad said in a statement.

He explained in a tweet via Twitter that Qatar has based its desire to host the Olympics on 5 pillars, namely: “sports infrastructure, civilized renaissance, strong experience and prestige in the global peace community and aspiration for a more prosperous future.”
