The Egyptian Journalists Syndicate Diaa Rashwan announced the release of journalist Adel Sabry after he spent two years in prison, the maximum legal period for pretrial detention.

Rashwan said in a statement that he continued the procedures for the release of Sabri today, Monday, until his arrival at his home, and that he contacted him by phone and reassured him while he was among his family.

Sabri is the editor-in-chief of the "Egypt Arab" website, and he was imprisoned in connection with case No. 441 of 2018 by a decision of the Supreme State Security Prosecution, on charges of spreading false news, joining a banned group and helping it achieve its goals, after publishing a translated report from the American New York Times about the occurrence of Major violations in the Egyptian presidential elections.

Egypt is ranked third among the countries most imprisoned for journalists, and human rights estimates for the number of detained journalists reach about 60 journalists, some of whom were released and then arrested again, including journalist Hassan al-Qabbani and his wife.
