On Monday, the World Health Organization considered that keeping countries borders closed is not a "viable" strategy to fight the emerging corona virus, while acknowledging the difficulty of finding a comprehensive plan at the international level.

"It will become almost impossible for countries to keep their borders closed in the near future," said Michael Rain, director of emergency situations for the organization, at a news conference via the Internet.

Many countries in the world are closing their borders to citizens from dangerous classified areas or imposing quarantine and testing, but without coordinating a plan.

Ryan noted that "keeping international borders closed is not necessarily a viable plan."

"Economies must be reopened, people must go to work, and trade must resume," he said, noting that every country must take into account the risks of opening its borders individually.

"It is very difficult to find a policy that works for everyone. In a small country without any cases of Covid-19, one injury (imported) may constitute a catastrophe. The border closure may not happen in a country where the injuries are high, any difference."

He stressed that "travel restriction measures must be combined with other procedures."

The WHO official considered that these measures "on their own are not effective in limiting the movement of the virus spreading everywhere."

It realizes, "but it is very difficult to set a global policy," stressing that the nature of the danger is determined by local and national situations.
