The dispute within the Sudanese Professionals Caucus began before the new secretarial elections were held last May, when the opinions of its currents differed regarding the performance of the transitional government, so a group of them refused to align themselves with the street again, and approached one of the largest rebel movements.

The streams of professionals gathered divided between a revolutionary current that puts the government and its political incubator "forces of freedom and change" under pressure, and another that has been called a "soft landing group."

When the dispute reached its climax after the election of a new secretariat, the professionals gathered on a date with a new test on the street, which was the call for a June 30 million, and some leaders of the group see that there is a thin line between weakening and reforming the revolution government.

What is new is that the new secretaries withdrew from the structures of the forces of freedom and change, and hours later they signed an understanding with the SPLM-North, which in turn described the assembly's withdrawal from the structures of freedom and change as a "historical lethality."

coup

According to a prominent leader in the Professionals Caucus, it is not unlikely that the group would initiate an alliance with the Popular Movement - North led by Abdel Aziz El Helou, and the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid Nour, two movements outside the structures of the forces of freedom and change.

A member of the Waleed Ali Council of Professionals says that the possibility of a coup within the forces of freedom and change and an alliance with the National Umma Party is "a possibility."

Ali will reveal to Al-Jazeera Net an upcoming meeting between the professionals and the Umma Party, where each party will present its vision for the reform of the coalition that led and coordinated the December 2018 revolution that toppled Bashir on April 11, 2019. The Umma Party headed by Sadiq al-Mahdi suspended his membership in the coalition, demanding To restructure it.

Ali goes on to explain the position of the professionals' group, saying, "It is not necessarily the creation of a new alliance, but the basis is the development of the current alliance, because the group has not withdrawn from the declaration of freedom and change, nor from its forces, but rather from the current lame structures."

Spinning the movements

In the wake of the gradual move away policy adopted by the professionals from the transitional government, expectations increased for his alliance with the movements of El Helou and Abdel Wahed.

Al-Walid says that the gathering of professionals aims to restructure the forces of freedom and change with the same components, with the addition of new components on top of these two movements.

It indicates that there are components that are signatories to the Freedom and Change Charter and are not represented in the coalition structures, as well as non-signed entities such as the Popular Movement faction al-Hilo, ready to sign the Coalition Charter, provided that specific details are added.

It gives examples of the requirements of the Hilo movement in the Charter for Freedom and Change, which is to demonstrate land ownership and the rights of local communities in their areas.

He warns that the Declaration of Freedom and Change proposed in its texts in December 2018 the development of the charter in the future, and adopted previous agreements such as the Asmara conference outcomes for the crucial issues of 1995 which stipulated the separation of religion and the state.

The Professionals' Association and the Hilo Movement signed a political declaration in Juba today, Sunday, stating that citizenship should be the basis of rights and duties, without discrimination in building the state and ensuring the protection of freedom of belief, worship, thought and religious practice.

The declaration requested a return to the implementation of the laws of 1974 and the restructuring of the army and other regular forces, to become national forces performing their duties under the constitution.

The demonstrations of June 30, 2020 were a test for the Professionals Caucus (Al-Jazeera).

Resistance Committees

Although a member of the Professionals Assembly sees their meetings related to the resistance committees, and that the recent gathering decisions bring him closer to the street; But Hashem Shaker - one of the leaders of the resistance committees in Khartoum Bahri - regrets the divisions that have become the case in the gathering.

Shaker blames the gathering for entering into alliances with armed movements and political forces, and believes that his entry into the coalition of declaring freedom and change was a mistake, in the sense that the street originally responded to the gathering calls in the demonstrations to step down.

Shaker assures Al Jazeera Net that the results of the new secretarial elections last May, regardless of the positions of the two wings of the gathering, are disappointing results, because the gathering represents the last opportunity for the Sudanese.

It is feared that the conflicts inside the gathering of professionals will descend to the level of the resistance committees in the neighborhoods and villages, in light of the sharp polarization that has reached advanced stages.

Allied Mediation

A member of the Central Council for Freedom and Change Forces, Haider Al-Safi, criticizes the gathering of professionals, saying that "the group left its main tasks in rebuilding unions and overcame its political performance."

Al-Safi acknowledges - in his speech to Al-Jazeera Net - that the performance of the Freedom and Change Alliance is tainted by some weakness, as it has become a political front rather than a political incubator for the government, and he has also been unable to play its oversight role.

It is evident that the coalition had previously requested the dismissal of a minister, and Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk did not respond to this.

He points out that, based on the group’s divided state, its seats in the Central Council for Freedom and Change Forces are still vacant, while a tripartite committee mediates between bodies of dissident professionals.

But a member of the Professionals Association, Alwaleed Ali, confirms the community's asceticism in returning to the Central Council for Freedom and Change Forces, unless a real reform took place at the level of the structures and bodies making up the alliance.

He continues that "the distorted form of the Central Council weakened the forces of freedom and change, for example the government is working on economic reforms contrary to what was proposed by the Economic Committee of the Alliance."
