Thirty billion euros should be devoted to the ecological transition within the recovery plan, which as a whole will ensure the decarbonization of the economy, said the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire in an interview, published on Sunday. July 26, in the Journal du dimanche.

"With (the Minister of Ecological Transition) Barbara Pompili, we propose to devote 30 billion euros out of the 100 billion planned for investments in ecological transition", he told the JDD. "We will ensure that all recovery decisions favor a new growth model based on decarbonisation, energy sobriety and green innovations. The recovery plan will be a green plan," he added.

Three sectors will be "priority areas: energy renovation, transport and energy", with the first being the renovation of private buildings via an increase in credits from the MaPrimeRénov 'scheme.

The JDD asked the Minister of the Economy if the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions linked to the recovery plan had been quantified.

"We have a 30% drop in CO2 emissions over ten years for our industry," simply replies the Minister. "This trajectory is out of reach for the moment. To respect this objective, we are going to help the most polluting industrial sites to reduce their emissions. We will provide a first list of these sites at the end of August," he indicates. "The monitoring of this objective will be transparent. It will be based on a rigorous and quantified assessment", adds the Minister.

As for job creation, the green recovery "in the long term, it can be counted in hundreds of thousands everywhere in our territories", assures Bruno Le Maire. According to him, "for the ecological transition to be accepted by all French people, it must create jobs. We are therefore going to initiate a training process so that our choices of new industrial sectors translate into new jobs".

In his general policy speech delivered to the National Assembly on July 15, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced a sum of 20 billion for ecology. The other three major components of the 100 billion euro recovery plan, details of which will be presented on August 24 in the Council of Ministers, concern the development of industry (40 billion), skills (20 billion) and solidarity. (20 billion). In his interview with the JDD, Bruno Le Maire does not specify where the 10 billion added to the component of the ecological transition will be taken.
