The Israeli occupation army said that "its military helicopters raided targets of the Syrian army in the Quneitra countryside," in response to the shooting at the occupied side of the Golan Heights earlier Friday afternoon, according to the Israeli army.

The army added - in an official statement - that the raids targeted monitoring sites and means of gathering intelligence located in the targeted Syrian sites, and that it would continue to respond to any violation of the sovereignty of the State of Israel, as the statement said.

In turn, the Syrian News Agency said, quoting a military source, that "two soldiers of the regime forces were wounded by shelling from Israeli helicopters on the countryside of Quneitra."

The agency added that Israeli helicopters targeted 3 anti-tank missiles at the front borders with the Golan; Resulting in fires.

The strike came a few hours after the Israeli army said that explosions were heard from the Syrian-controlled part of the Golan. The army stated that there were no reports of injuries, but that an Israeli building and vehicle were damaged.

Tension escalated this week on the Israeli-Syrian border after the killing of a Lebanese Hezbollah member in an Israeli strike on the outskirts of Damascus last Monday.

The Israeli army has strengthened its forces on the borders with Syria and Lebanon, and the Lebanese border area with Israel is witnessing an active movement of Israeli drones, and a UNIFIL helicopter was seen over the border area in a monitoring and observation mission.

The Israeli army closed several sections of the old North Street, adjacent to the border with Lebanon, and placed military barriers in other areas in anticipation of any emergency.

Al-Jazeera correspondent reported that the Israeli army had reduced its military patrols on the border with Lebanon, in order to avoid being targeted by Hezbollah, in response to the killing of one of its members in Syria in an air strike several days ago.

Israel occupied large areas of the Golan Heights, which are considered part of Syrian territory, during the June 1967 war, and announced its annexation in 1981, but the international community does not recognize this.
