Fabio Quartararo took pole position on Saturday for MotoGP Andalusia while injured Marc Marquez decided to skip qualifying to preserve his strength for the race on Sunday.

This is the 2nd pole in a row, and the 8th of his MotoGP career, for the young Frenchman who won the first Grand Prix of the season at the same Jerez circuit last Sunday.

The six-time Spanish world champion and title holder Marc Marquez broke his right arm when he fell during this Spanish Grand Prix and underwent surgery on Tuesday.

The Honda rider however took part in free practice on Friday and Saturday but preferred to abstain for qualifying on Saturday afternoon. He will therefore start last on the grid if he decides to take part in the race, the start of which will be given at 2:00 p.m. local (12:00 p.m. GMT).

Quartararo (Yamaha-SRT) edged out Maverick Vinales who raced on a factory Yamaha. The latter had set the fastest time in the last seconds of the qualifying session but was subsequently deprived of it for having exceeded the limits of the track on his fastest lap.
