The man has been detained since Thursday evening on suspicion of causing another person's death in two cases, causing bodily injury and gross negligence in traffic.
- Serious causing of another's death must always be investigated by prosecutors, says Kjell Jannesson who is a chamber prosecutor in Kalmar.
Kjell Jannesson says that the police initially had not seen any reason to detain the driver. But when prosecutors were finally called in, the man was arrested immediately.
- Witness information says that the car was driving at a fairly high speed before the accident, says Kjell Jannesson.
After the accident, the driver was tested for alcohol, but that test showed a negative. Nor should the driver have shown any obvious signs of drug exposure, according to Kjell Jannesson.
The driver had to leave a blood sample after the accident. The result of that blood test has not yet come.
- We will continue to talk to witnesses and the car will be examined. It will probably take two to four weeks before the investigation is completely finished, says Kjell Jannesson.
