The coronavirus crisis is not over. President Emmanuel Macron meets this Friday a Defense Council to take stock of the resumption of the epidemic and "study new measures". "The concern remains obviously strong among the French" and "there are very strong concerns in several countries with reconfinement decisions", said government spokesman Gabriel Attal Wednesday after the Council of Ministers.
In this context, "there will be a Defense Council dedicated to Covid-19 on Friday around the President of the Republic to study new measures that can be taken on this issue," he added. It “will allow us to start giving visibility to all the players for the end of the summer and for the start of the school year”.
Border controls, mask wear and tests
The Council, which brings together the ministers and the heads of the main state services concerned with the management of the crisis, should notably discuss the issues of border controls, the wearing of masks and tests.
Strengthen border controls . Asked by RTL about the idea of closing borders with countries at risk, the government spokesperson replied that “everything” was going to be “looked at” during this meeting. The reinforcement of tests in airports could also be studied there.
Wearing the mask. The various ministers present will take stock of the obligation, since Monday, July 20, to wear a mask in closed public places. The Defense Council will also study the possibility of changing the maximum level set at 5,000 people for gatherings.
Increase the number of screenings . “We are now at a capacity for weekly tests of 700,000 and the number of tests actually carried out is increasing very strongly. We were at 380,000 for the last week, ”said Gabriel Attal. He assured that the State was working "very strongly" to reduce "the congestion in the medical analysis laboratories to carry out the tests" which is observed "in several territories and in particular in Ile-de-France".
The Directorate General of Health indicated at the beginning of the week that the circulation of the virus was "on the increase in the national territory". Since the start of the epidemic, the death toll has risen to 30,182.
