  • Courts Police say the councilman who denounced Gürtel also charged

The Majadahonda City Council has managed to unlock the license for the construction of 210 homes on the RN1 plot that unleashed the Gürtel case and thus resolve a complex file that had been open since 2016. The mayor, José Luis Álvarez Ustarroz, from the PP , has resolved the technical and legal issues that remained entrenched and that made it impossible to clear administrative procedures. The decision comes after the City Council has been able to verify that it has not suffered any economic damage in the operations derived from the sale of the plot, according to municipal sources.

The farm in question is the famous land that the Gürtel case unleashed when the former mayor of Majadahonda, Guillermo Ortega, attempted a fraudulent award of the farm to a company that was not the best offer in the contest and, therefore, the operation it was not the most advantageous for the City Council. Esperanza Aguirre was then president of the Community of Madrid and has always boasted of stopping the urban operation of adjudication of the Majadahonda land when she suspected that there was a possible case of prevarication to favor the interests of a construction company.

Curiously, the head of the mayor's office was the wife of Francisco Correa, the leader of the plot, and José Luis Peñas was then the mayor of Urbanism and Works. Aguirre forced Guillermo Ortega to resign as mayor. Months later, Peñas secretly filmed Correa and then reported the plot of tricks on the awards to Judge Baltasar Garzón. In the end, he was also sentenced in the Gürtel plot to four years in prison for illegally financing electoral acts.

The famous RN1 plot was finally sold to the Vallehermoso construction company for 95 million. Later, with the economic crisis, the parcel was transferred to Sareb, which was later sold to Adeas Home. In 2014, the Plenum of the Majadahonda City Council agreed to suspend some of the conditions set out in the award of the plot and in 2016 Aedas applied for the license to build 210 homes. ç

This developer started selling the homes and a hundred people paid 25,000 euros in advance to buy the apartments in this residential. Time went by and doubts about the plot grew, which delayed the final granting of the license. Construction company Aedas began to grow impatient and threatened to take the case to court and claim € 90 million in compensation.

In 2019, José Luis Álvarez Ustarroz won the elections in Majadahonda and the new alderman decided to hire an external legal team to check whether the lifting of the conditions of the plot were correct and the specifications in the sale of the plot were being met.

Finally, the municipal government team has decided to grant the construction license with all the favorable technical and legal reports. Likewise, the City Council has verified that there is no economic damage to the municipal coffers in the derivative operations after the sale of the plot.

"It is an important project for Majadahonda that develops a field that has not been completed until now and that will improve the appearance of the environment," they point out from the Town Hall. " Its implementation will bring significant socio-economic benefits in terms of dynamism and employment, not only for the area but for the rest of the municipality," adds a municipal spokesman.
