“The court ruled: to satisfy the investigator’s petition, to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention in absentia,” the judge said.

It is noted that the term of the arrest is set for two months from the moment of the arrest of Usatii or his extradition to Russia. He is on the international wanted list.

According to the agency, at the end of April, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that Usatii had been charged in absentia in the case of withdrawing 500 billion rubles from Russia together with Moldovan politician Vladimir Plahotniuc. 

In August 2019, a Moscow court arrested in absentia the former leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova, Vladimir Plahotniuc, on charges of organizing a criminal community.
