China News Agency, Taipei, July 23. As the new crown pneumonia epidemic slows and the epidemic prevention is lifted, Taiwan's catering industry is gradually recovering. Statistics show that the turnover of Taiwan’s catering industry in June was 63.8 billion yuan (NTD, the same below), the best performance since the epidemic spread in February this year.

According to Taiwan media reports such as the Central News Agency and United News Network, the economic department of the Taiwan authorities announced on the 23rd June the turnover of wholesale, retail and catering. Among them, the wholesale business turnover was 835.6 billion yuan, benefiting from the growth of long-distance business opportunities and notebook memory sales, an increase of 0.1% year-on-year; the retail business turnover was 307.2 billion yuan, still affected by the impact of the tourism industry, down 1.3% year-on-year.

The department's analysis pointed out that as the epidemic slows, people's lives are gradually returning to the right track. Coupled with the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, people's opportunities and willingness to go out for dinner have greatly increased, thus driving the overall catering industry performance growth, with a turnover of 63.8 billion yuan in June. This is the best performance since the epidemic spread in February this year, second only to 82.8 billion yuan in January this year.

In addition, the turnover of the catering industry in June decreased by 7% year-on-year, the smallest decrease since February this year. Statistics show that from February to April this year, the turnover of Taiwan's catering industry decreased by 17%, 21%, and 22.8% respectively. However, with the gradual slowing of the epidemic and the recovery of consumer willingness, May's turnover fell by 8.2% year-on-year, and the decline returned to single digits.

According to the department, the epidemic disrupted many couples’ plans for weddings and banquets. As a result, the performance of banquet restaurants was weakened. The restaurant industry’s turnover decreased by 6.5% year-on-year; however, benefited from the hot weather and the industry’s promotion activities. The turnover of beverage shops bucked the trend and increased by 2%. (Finish)
