The City Council of the Madrid town of Pinto will withdraw the name of Juan Carlos I from the largest public park in the municipality after the motion presented by PSOE, Unidas Pinto and Podemos , which have an absolute majority in the plenary session.

According to the text of the motion, to which Efe has had access, the proposing groups do not believe that "such an outstanding place deserves to bear the name of a person on whom there are well- founded suspicions of his participation in eventual cases of corruption."

The groups say the motion has "nothing to do" with the debate between the monarchy or the republic and accuse the king emeritus of "fueling suspicions about his involvement in various non-transparent matters" with his abdication in June 2014.

In the explanatory statement, the motion presented by the left in Pinto reviews some of the latest news concerning King Juan Carlos, such as the investigation opened by the Supreme Court Prosecutor 's Office , the 65 million euros that he would have donated to Corinna Larsen o the resignation of his inheritance announced on March 16 by King Felipe VI.

"The more than evident deterioration of the image of this public figure advises that such an important space does not bear his name, since someone who is not capable of impeccable conduct should not receive public tribute," the text of the motion highlights.

Public consultation

To choose the new name of the current Juan Carlos I de Pinto Park, the three proponent groups propose to carry out a citizen consultation based on the options established by the groups that support the motion in plenary, which will take place on the 30th.

Once the motion is approved, they will remove the "bust" of the King that is at the entrance of the park, as well as "any representative symbol of the monarch" that is currently "present in any building or municipal infrastructure".

Pinto has already withdrawn the name of Infanta Cristina from another public building and renamed it Casa de la Cadena.

The Juan Carlos I park is the largest in the city, with 550,000 square meters. Inaugurated on June 18, 1998, it has the fairgrounds, a lake, with walking areas, the archaeological park 'Arqueopinto' and a road education circuit.
