The Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire. - CHRISTOPHE SAIDI

A little more here, a little less there, and in the end, a desire to stay in balance. The Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, took advantage of the debate on the orientation of public finances in the Assembly this Thursday to indicate that the staff of Justice, the police and Health would be increased in 2021. But they will be compensated: "there will also be staff reductions in sectors where this is possible", in particular at the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Recovery, he continued. And to add: "We have taken the decision to control the evolution of public employment, (...) we want the stabilization of the State workforce in 2021".

The "priority" is "to devote job creation to the territorial administration and to ask the central administration to make a greater effort than before", specified the Minister of Public Accounts, Olivier Dussopt. A desire for decentralization which is part of what the Prime Minister, Jean Castex, announced in his general policy speech, evoking a "revolution".

Equality between women and men at + 40%

Bruno Le Maire and Olivier Dussopt have also indicated that the credits for missions from the State budget (excluding the recovery plan) will increase in 2021 by 7 billion euros (+ 2.6%). An increase "reasonable", judge Bruno Le Maire. The means of justice will be reinforced with an increase of 6% of the budget of the ministry. The Armed Forces budget will be allocated an additional 1.7 billion euros in 2021, in particular "in favor of space defense". Those of National Education and Higher Education and Research will increase by 1.3 billion and 300 million euros respectively.

The credits allocated to the ecological transition will amount to more than 26 billion, an increase of 550 million euros, "to which will be added a major envelope of the recovery plan", continued Olivier Dussopt. The Culture budget will see an increase of 150 million euros and that dedicated to Equality between women and men will benefit from an "unprecedented increase" of "nearly 40%".

Woerth reviews

For the President of the Finance Committee, Eric Woerth, this draft budget is inappropriate because "everything is a priority, therefore nothing is a priority".

The former Budget Minister questioned its funding, asking not to "confuse public accounts with fairy tales" and pleading for a plan to "convalesce" public finances.
