- We suspect that it may have been someone who spontaneously turned on, but there is nothing we can prove. We have made the investigative measures we have been able to, but have no clues or witnesses to proceed with and therefore we can not investigate the cause of the fire further, says the preliminary investigation leader Daniel Wangler.

It was at 11.30 pm on Saturday 4 July that the rescue service and police were alerted to a fire on a loading dock along Kanalgatan in Jönköping. The fire, which is said to have started in some form of packaging, caused a large spread of smoke in the area and extensive damage to the site. In connection with the fire, the cooling system for ICA's store was also shut down. As a result, the store later had to throw away foodstuffs at great values.

Unclear cause of fire

After the weekend almost three weeks ago, the police forensic technicians carried out a technical investigation of the fire site.

-But it gave nothing of value that directly indicates that it is an arson. The cause of the fire has not been determined and there is no suspect.

Put down

On Thursday, therefore, the police's preliminary investigation into vandalism was shut down.

-It obviously feels boring, but in some cases it may be completely correct to close down. There are investigations that are closed where there is a suspect but there is no evidence - here we do not know the cause of the fire and can therefore not firmly suspect what has happened, says Daniel Wangler.
