- These are people who are 70 years and older, and then certain groups who have underlying diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure - the type of diseases that can make the covid infection worse, says Andersson and adds that even healthcare professionals who works especially with covidfall and staff in elderly care are high on the priority list.

According to Sören Andersson, this involves around two million individuals who may be vaccinated in the first stage. The internal order among these high-priority groups has not yet been nailed down and largely depends on what the upcoming vaccine looks like.

- If it is the case that the first vaccine works poorly in the elderly, it may happen that we redirect and drive with health and medical staff first, he says.

Only at a later stage may it become relevant to vaccinate the rest of the population.

Vaccination start next year

According to the Public Health Agency's plan, which is part of the government's vaccination strategy and must be reported no later than the last day of August, it is the regions that are responsible for the vaccination itself that will take place at the country's hospitals and health centers.

- They are responsible for the vaccinations being carried out, we make sure that the vaccine is in place, Andersson says.

When can the vaccinations start? According to Sören Andersson, the pharmaceutical companies that have come the furthest in the development of a vaccine have said that they will be able to deliver the first vaccine doses by the turn of the year. Provided that they keep what they promised and that all tests look good, it should not be long before you can start.

- It is reasonable to imagine that sometime next year we can vaccinate, he says.

No need to worry

The development of corona vaccine has been at a record pace and many people are wondering if they dare to take the vaccine when it comes. Sören Andersson says that he understands the concerns, but that the development has gone according to the rule book - even if it has gone at a furious pace. The vaccine must also be approved by both Swedish and foreign authorities.

- If you have come this far, there is no reason to worry, he says.

When asked if he himself would dare to take it, he answers for sure, absolutely, but that it may not be needed.

- I have had the infection, so based on what we know today, I have immunity.
