While several sources of contamination have been detected in Gironde, screening centers have been set up in the most touristic places in the region, and in particular in the Arcachon basin. Objective: to encourage holidaymakers to be tested, and to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

REPORTAGE

The government is hammering it: even on vacation, barrier gestures should not be forgotten in the face of the coronavirus epidemic. In France, 212 "clusters" are active, including several in Gironde. So, several screening centers were set up in one of the most touristic places in the region, the Arcachon basin. Objective of these structures, located near the station and one of the most popular beaches: to encourage vacationers to be tested, and to avoid the "second wave".

"We said to ourselves: why not take advantage of it"

"We left to go to the beach, we saw that there was a free screening, we said to ourselves why not take advantage of it", testifies Bastien, who came in flip-flops and swimsuits with his stepdaughter Ayanna. "It doesn't scare me, it's like an attraction," enthuses the latter in front of the barnum, installed under the pines.

A free attraction, which only requires a social security number. "We did the test, we will think about it for 48 hours, the time to be sure not to be positive", breathes Bastien at the exit. "After that will reassure us. But we will continue to wear masks to go to the store."

The Arcachon basin, a "particularly strategic" area

Never let your guard down: it is, in any case, the instruction given to tourists. "Holidays are also a place of relaxation", notes Julien Rossignol, director of the Arcachon hospital. "We really want to be well positioned here, because the population quadruple in the Arcachon basin in summer. It is a particularly strategic area for us." The device should be kept there all summer.
