Los Angeles (AP) - Actor Dave Franco (35, "Superbad") will take the lead in a biopic about the 1990s icon Vanilla Ice.
The success of the rapper, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, was brief but tremendous: "Ice Ice Baby" was his biggest hit. His album "To the Extreme" was No. 1 on the US charts for 16 weeks in 1990 and sold 15 million copies worldwide. The magazine "Insider" reported.
In preparation for the film, Franco said: "Rob (...) was super helpful in the process of sorting out all the details and giving us information that the public doesn't know." After the interview, "I can't help thinking about the rabbit holes I'm going to go to to prepare for the role," Franco said.
In terms of content, the film was described in an early project sketch: «From a high school dropout who sold cars in Dallas to the first hip-hop single topping the billboard charts with 'Ice Ice Ice Baby', a boy is fighting Vanilla Ice with fame, attempts to blackmail and sell out while writing music history. »
