"During his flight, at one point Ata came across a 'short woman with plump cheeks and black eyes' who was wearing a dark color and wearing a bowler hat and long coat despite the month of May, which gave security at a certain distance to the author of the shots, to which he gave an object that cannot be specified, both fleeing in opposite directions: He binds the race and the woman with a light step. "

Nineteen years after that scene took place in the center of Zaragoza , the judge has tried ETA Miren Zaldua for being that short woman, with plump cheeks and black eyes who, together with ETA member Mikel Carrera Sarobe, participated in the assassination of the president of the PP de Aragón Manuel Giménez Abad on his way to La Romareda with his son to watch a soccer game.

Zaldua, alias Sahatsa and who has already served a sentence in France for terrorism, was arrested on Tuesday. This Wednesday he went through the National Court, from which at the request of the Prosecutor's Office he left in the direction of prison and with the indictment for terrorist murder.

The judge Santiago Pedraz explains in his car that the definitive element to act against the ETA member was the identification that Borja made of her , who that day was accompanying her father. The recognition of ETA's photograph was first made before the Security Forces and was ratified two weeks ago before the judge himself.

A photo and reports from the Civil Guard

Pedraz explains in the indictment that at the time of the attack, the Security Forces were unaware that Zaldua was part of the Basajaun command , so his photograph was not shown to witnesses to the events. Nor has the image shown to the son ever been disclosed in the media, reinforcing the value of identification.

To the recognition of the ETA, there are recent reports from the Civil Guard on the "structure, components and attacks" attributed to the command at that time, which reinforces the thesis of the detainee's participation. For these reports, the enormous information on ETA that France gave to Spain has been used.

The ETA member was arrested in France in 2006 and served a sentence in that country for terrorism. In 2017, when her sentence expired, she was expelled to Spain. That prison in France prevents her from being sentenced again for belonging to ETA, but not that she faces a new conviction for the murder of Giménez Abad in 2001.

It will be a court of the Hearing which, after the trial, determines the scope of the identification as proof of charge and that of the Civil Guard reports as sufficient corroboration. Until then, Zaldua will wait in prison.
