22 July 2020A boat carrying 55 Tunisians was rescued by the Coast Guard patrol boat in the waters in front of Lampedusa. The migrants have already landed on the Favarolo pier and after the first health checks will be transferred to the hotspot in the Imbriacola district.

Almost 800 people arrived in about 48 hours.

83 rescued last night, 200 migrants in Porto Empedocle 
There are 200 Tunisians on board the scheduled ferry to Porto Empedocle (Agrigento) where they will arrive in the evening. Meanwhile, more than 500 people remain at the Lampedusa hotspot. After the 67 migrants who, with 4 boats, arrived directly on the mainland between night and dawn, the landings did not stop: another 83 Tunisians, on several boats, were rescued by the Coast Guard patrol boats. The Prefecture of Agrigento is still working to look for new and additional structures where to place the migrants who crowd the hotspot where it has reached the share of over 600 presences.

Buffers to all migrants who land
 "We are working with the Sicily region to ensure that buffers are made for all foreigners who disembark and a similar procedure will be adopted for all those arriving in other regions as well". The Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese said this at the question time in the Chamber, stressing that the government has "the utmost and constant attention to the health of citizens".   

The owner of the Interior Ministry said that work is underway to have two other ships to allow migrants who are positive to carry out the quarantine and that to date 163 migrants landed in Italy tested positive for Covid, all quarantined in locations in which "supervisory measures are guaranteed" with the Army and police forces. 

163 migrants to date have tested positive for Coronavirus, "sanitary isolation measures have been arranged for all", said Minister Luciana Lamorgese, underlining that as regards Lampedusa "since July 11, 1,487 serological tests have been performed, and in case of positivity, the swabs. We work with the Sicilian Region to ensure swabs to all landings, even for those arriving in other regions and to identify two ships for quarantine ".

Lamorgese, next week I will be in Tunisia. Then meeting with France, more solidarity is needed in the EU 
The interior minister Luciana Lamorgese will be in Tunisia next week to meet the president of the republic and the interior minister with the aim of improving dialogue with the countries of origin and transit of migrants who land in our country and develop shared strategies. The same Viminale owner announced it during the question time in the Chamber, underlining that he was constantly in contact with colleagues from the European Union and that he will have a meeting with the French Interior Minister in the coming days. "We must find consensus for greater solidarity within the EU - said Lamorgese - and develop a concrete partnership with African countries, to prevent flows and accelerate returns ".
