Countermeasures against Russian intervention in EU referendum No government action taken Parliament report, July 22, 10:28

A British Parliamentary Commission released a report on Russia and criticized that the government did not take measures, although it could not determine whether Russia intervened as a result of a referendum that decided to leave the EU. And pointed out that an investigation is needed.

The United Kingdom has made a tough stance toward Russia last week by issuing a statement condemning it with the United States and others, saying that the Russian intelligence agency was involved in a cyber attack to steal information on vaccine research of the new coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the Information Security Committee of the British Parliament published a report on Russia on the 21st.

The report notes that successive governments have been pouring out illegal Russian money through companies and political circles, and point to Russia's influence in the United Kingdom as a new normal.

Then, Russia said that it was conducting a cyber attack to try to intervene in foreign elections, and in the referendum four years ago when it decided to leave the EU, it was countered by the Russian media and by an automatic program called "bot". Although more information on the EU has been communicated, it is difficult to determine the impact on voting behavior.

The report, however, criticizes the government for not taking adequate steps and emphasizes the need for an investigation similar to what the United States did after the presidential election.

The British media reported that the Johnson administration was delaying the publication of this report, fearing its impact on the general elections last December.
