The incident happened last week. Qamar Gul, an Afghan teenage girl, killed two Taliban and injured several others to avenge her parents who the insurgents had just killed in front of their house.

The latter broke into the home of the teenager whose father was the village chief in central Ghor province. They were looking for him because he supported the government, said local police chief Habiburahman Malekzada.

Safety with his brother

The Taliban dragged him out of the house and when his wife resisted, they shot the couple outside their home, according to the police chief. “Qamar Gul, who was inside the house, then seized a machine gun belonging to the family. She killed the two Taliban who shot her parents, and injured several others, ”he added. Other Taliban members later came to attack the house, but villagers and pro-government militiamen were able to push them back after a shooting.

The teenager, aged between 14 and 16, was taken with her brother by Afghan security forces to safety, said Mohamed Aref Aber, spokesman for the provincial governor.

A "heroic" act

Since the incident, social networks have been inundated with comments hailing the girl's “heroic” act. A photo of the teenage girl, wearing the veil, a machine gun in her lap, has gone viral. “Hats off to his courage! Well done, ”said a user on Facebook. “The power of an Afghan girl,” wrote another.

The Taliban regularly kill villagers they suspect are government informants. In recent months, they have also stepped up their attacks on the security forces, although they have agreed to start peace talks with Kabul.
