In "Sans Rendez-vous" on Europe 1, the doctor and columnist Damien Mascret addresses a question that torments all women in the world: why then do some men decide to send photos of their sex even though no one has theirs asked ? A study by researchers in British Columbia looked into the question.

These are called dick peaks . Some men send pictures of their penises to women who, however, have never asked for them and will, of course, feel it as sexual violence. So why do some people persist in engaging in this kind of practice? Last summer, researchers in British Columbia, Canada, conducted a study on the topic of more than 1,000 heterosexual men between the ages of 16 and 76. And if we leave aside all that is "sexting", that is to say the exchanges between willing partners to stimulate each other, there is still half of the sample to answer the questions. The results are edifying.

Four in five senders hope this will excite the recipient

About 12% of respondents seem to be aware that these dick peaks constitute aggression, with 7% admitting to exercising precisely to anger a woman and 5% because they dislike feminism. But others believe, on the contrary, that the recipient likes it. Four in five do so in the hope of arousing the woman who comes across this message, or in order to show their sexual interest in her. One in two even do so in the hope of receiving the same type of image in return. And one in three in the hope that the person will want to have sex.

All this is already very surprising when we know that women experience it as a sexual assault. Even more worrying: one in five men consider it a normal way to flirt. And then some amateurs are even more cynical: one in five thinks that by sending enough dick pics , someone will eventually respond favorably.

High degree of narcissism ... and sexism

These men not only overestimate the power of an image over the female imagination when it is not consented, but more generally have difficulties with the notion of consent. Because to send this type of photos, it is of course necessary to ensure upstream that the partner is consenting. Immaturity is also emerging, with one in four respondents sending dick pics because they are proud of the look of their penis and want to share it.

In fact, Canadian researchers have found that licensed shippers have a high degree of narcissism. They also have a high level of sexism, which will not surprise anyone. In reality, everyone would benefit from consulting to better understand female sexuality.

As for the unfortunate recipients, they are advised to keep these images and to file a complaint at the police station. For the women who receive these photos, one mistake should not be made: to publicly release the unwanted image would in turn be at fault for you.
