The Defense Ministry said the ROK-US Defense Minister held a phone call on the 21st to discuss issues such as training in the United States-ROK Combined Forces Command, negotiating defense contributions, and switching to OPCON.

According to the Pentagon, Defense Minister Chung Kyung-doo reaffirmed the robustness of the ROK-US alliance and the close cooperation between the two countries' defense authorities at a phone call with Defense Secretary Mark Esper about 7 am.

The Secretary and the Minister agreed to share the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and continue to support diplomatic efforts to fully denuclearize North Korea and establish permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.

In particular, it is expected that North Korea recently discussed the trend in North Korea and cooperation between the United States and the United States in relation to the reaffirmation of'strengthening war deterrence' while referring to the'potential military threat' at the closed meeting of the Central Military Committee.

The two sides also agreed to maintain the preparedness of the ROK-US alliance and the combined defense posture to respond to a fluid security environment on the Korean Peninsula.
