Johnny Perri, a jeweler in Washington Township, Michigan (USA), recently launched a series of paid treasure hunts in the state. The various loot he has buried in a dozen places reach a value of one million dollars (approximately 875,000 euros), reports Forbes . This is in fact all of the stock that was in his store when the jeweler had to permanently close shop because of the health crisis linked to the coronavirus.

The treasures to be discovered are thus made up of antiques, precious metals, old coins and diamonds. He says he had a revelation during the forced and final stop of his activity. “I could have sold everything I owned and retired,” he says on his website dedicated to treasure hunts. “But it wouldn't have been fun. There would have been no quest and adventure for anyone, ”he explained.

A participation of 49 dollars

The jeweler told local Fox2 channel that he spent four months scouring the Detroit area for ideal hiding places. To participate, you must register online and pay 49 dollars (about 43 euros) for each mission. The first is scheduled for August 1 and is already full, as are the next three. Each time, the loot will be equivalent to a value of approximately $ 4,000, or approximately 3,500 euros.

On the morning of the scheduled date, each adventurer will receive clues, plans and information to discover by solving puzzles or riddles. "By following the puzzles, being naturally a little smart and a little adventurous, you will find quickly," comments John Perri. I don't think it will take more than a week. "
