The lawmaker, Wafaa Bani Mustafa, told Al-Jazeera Net that the mitigating excuse for the death penalty stipulated in Article 98 of the Jordanian Penal Code was amended in 2017, so that the murderer was excluded from the so-called "attenuated excuse" in case the crime occurred on a female, so that the murderer does not benefit in "Honor crimes" from it.
She added that the removal of the murdered person’s right by her mother or her siblings in the event that the killer was her father does not give the killer a mitigating excuse, stressing the necessity of removing family crimes from the scope of dropping the personal right.
"We want real protection for battered women and girls," she said, adding, "It is inconceivable that a girl or a woman would be sponsored and removed from the shelters for an insecure environment, and after days he would die a horrific crime."
