The screams of the Jordanian 40s dreams - whose 60th father killed her a few days ago - are still echoing in Jordanian society, amid a state of rejection of what happened and anger at the heinous crime.

The way the father used to kill his daughter for the sake of "defending honor" was a shock to the Jordanians. Initially, he assaulted her inside the house with a sharp object to kill her, but she did not die, and she tried to escape outside the house with her bleeding blood, to catch her outside the house equipped with a rock that he had thrown on her head in Street, "washing away the disgrace that his daughter inflicted on him," as he informed those around him.

The crime chapters did not end there. Rather, he sat near her shattered head, drinking a cup of tea, pending his arrest by the public security forces.

The Ministry of Social Development cadres - yesterday, Monday - transported the deceased girl from the hospital and was washed, shrouded and buried, after her family refused to receive the body and bury it, according to official sources.

The murder of dreams in Jordan resonated in the Arab world, and its story was shared by the pioneers of social networking sites, and the # screams_ dreams issued trading lists in Jordan over a period of two days, a problem of public pressure calling for amending legislation that would not mitigate the killer, which prompted Prime Minister Omar Razzaz to speak On the necessity to increase the penalties in a speech he made last Sunday.

Experts and specialists believe that the Jordanian legislation regarding the so-called "honor killings" in which one of the victim’s guardians is responsible for her murder does not do justice to the victim, especially articles 98 and 99 of the Jordanian Penal Code, and the provisions related to forfeiting the personal right to crimes committed under the pretext of honor.

The victim was not spared from the accusation that she was the reason for her killing, as social media witnessed the participation of leaders who held the victim responsible for the killing, considering that the murderer did not commit his crime except because of what they considered the victim's actions, which he denounced and attacked the vast majority of those who interact with the crime.

The lawmaker, Wafaa Bani Mustafa, told Al-Jazeera Net that the mitigating excuse for the death penalty stipulated in Article 98 of the Jordanian Penal Code was amended in 2017, so that the murderer was excluded from the so-called "attenuated excuse" in case the crime occurred on a female, so that the murderer does not benefit in "Honor crimes" from it.

She added that the removal of the murdered person’s right by her mother or her siblings in the event that the killer was her father does not give the killer a mitigating excuse, stressing the necessity of removing family crimes from the scope of dropping the personal right.

"We want real protection for battered women and girls," she said, adding, "It is inconceivable that a girl or a woman would be sponsored and removed from the shelters for an insecure environment, and after days he would die a horrific crime."

Member of Parliament Dima Tahboub agreed on the necessity of increasing the penalties for aggressors against women or children in crimes of domestic violence, refusing to call the crime committed against Ahlam a crime of honor, as "there is no honor in the crime," according to her saying to the Island Net.

"There is no real deterrent to perpetrators of domestic violence crimes, which results in all of us increasing the penalties for those who commit these crimes, protecting women and applying a limit: the murderer is killed."

The Jordanian Solidarity Institute "Solidarity" called for a formal response to the murders of women and girls, and to ensure that perpetrators do not go unpunished, by establishing a national observatory of cases of killing women and girls, with the need not to accept a pledge from the family in the event of a risk, even if low, on the life of abused women to leave From the role of shelter.

The director of Mounir Iaibes Solidarity Institute believes that the return of women and girls to their families after signing an undertaking from any member of the family or more to protect them and not subject them to violence, "will not help even if the level of risk to their lives is very low", calling for expansion in establishing shelters for vulnerable women. At risk.

Specialists believe that eliminating the culture of silence among battered women and girls, which is the failure to inform the official authorities when they are exposed to any form of violence, is directly related to the possibility of changing the prevailing societal culture, which implicitly condemns the victim, and it is negligent for women to review security centers alone under any reason whatsoever.

Specialists are advised to provide women police in security centers, with the necessity of building their capabilities to receive these cases, diagnose them and describe them in the right way, which gives way for abused women to speak freely, clearly and without shame.
