Nearly 200 people have died in the monsoon floods and landslides in Bangladesh, Nepal and India, authorities in the South Asian countries said on Sunday. The balance sheet could worsen further in the face of rising river waters in the coming days.

One third of Bangladesh affected

In Bangladesh, at least 67 people have died and 2.6 million have been affected in the past two weeks by flooding from flooded rivers. "Of the total, 55 people died of drowning and eight were struck by lightning" during the bad weather, said the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, Ayesha Akther.

“The flood situation has improved in the past few days. But the water level of the rivers is rising again in the north, ”warned the head of the Bangladesh Flood Warning and Forecast Center Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan. A hundred dead in Nepal and India

In Nepal, 79 people have died and 46 are missing. Again, the government has warned of floods that could worsen the situation over the next three days. In India, floods have killed 45 people in northeastern Assam in the past two weeks, according to authorities.

More than 100 animals from Kaziranga National Park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to two-thirds of the world's population of unicorn rhinos, also perished in the weather.
