“It seems that the measures were taken on the basis of incorrect information and without following standard regulatory procedures,” the message says.

As noted, the actions of Vilnius and Riga contradict the commitments they assumed by joining the Global Coalition on Freedom of the Media.

AIB hopes that the decision will be reconsidered.

At the end of June, the broadcasting of seven channels of the RT group was banned in Latvia, due to the fact that the channels are “under control” of Dmitry Kiselyov.

Later, the Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission also banned RT broadcasting in the country, citing sanctions against Kiselyov.

RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan called this explanation phantasmagoric stupidity.

“Dmitry Kiselyov is not the head of RT, has nothing to do with RT. Dmitry Kiselev is the head of the Russia Segodnya MIA. They probably just scored "Russia Today" on Google, and Russia Today was translated for them. I cannot explain this phantasmagoric stupidity to anything else, ”she commented.

International organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) condemned the actions of Latvia and Lithuania towards RT. The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the elaboration of retaliatory measures to restrict the work of Russian media in the Baltics.
