- I estimate that there were up to 500 pheasant cubs in the building that was right next to the burning house. All the birds have survived, but they were very stressed, says Martin von Gerten, external commander of the rescue service Trelleborg.

The alarm about the fire came at 04:17 and the building that burned down to the ground was uninhabited. The rescue service fought to prevent the fire from spreading to the surrounding fields and the building with the pheasants.

- We also had to close the road to traffic during the extinguishing work, says Martin von Gerten.

Four stations from the rescue service were on site and the post-extinguishing work will continue during the morning.

What caused the fire is still unclear.
