“If I give, I hope to receive. Trust first. Unity and cohesion then ”. These are the words made by Jean Castex in front of the executives of the majority party, according to one of the participants, for his first participation in the executive office of La République en Marche.

The Prime Minister, who resigned from the Republicans on the day he took office at Matignon on July 3, had indicated that he wanted "(s) to unambiguously join the majority movement which supports the President's action", without specifying if he intended to formally join LREM.

"A strong signal for our movement"

"His presence at the first executive office that LREM since his appointment is a strong signal for our movement", welcomed in a statement the general delegate of the party Stanislas Guerini, who had also welcomed Edouard Philippe on several occasions in the past. "In the particular moment we are living, he will be able to count on the determination and the demands of La République En Marche and its members", he assured.

Monday evening, Jean Castex pleaded for "adopting renewed methods" by pointing to "the crisis of confidence" between politicians and "fellow citizens", according to several participants. “You cannot reform a country without taking into account the intermediary bodies. We are listening, we must be, ”he insisted.

In this perspective, he returned in particular to the pension reform, "the least consensual subject on the method and the substance", renewing his promise to separate the creation of the universal system by points from aspects of financial balance. "I told the social partners that this reform would be done in the mandate", he insisted.
