The supermarket in the Moulins district of Nice in front of which the shots took place - Google Street View

A video posted online by a resident reveals the shooting and shows men running in the distance, under the eye of customers at the entrance to a supermarket in the sensitive Moulins district of Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), known in particular for being a place of drug trafficking in the city.

"It was 9:31 am, detonations were heard and young people started to run. The neighborhood cordoned off, casings found but no one was injured and the case was resumed by the judicial police, "said the police, citing three arrests.

Estrosi claims the possibility of acting more strongly

"It's the second time in less than a month and it's a little scary," said a supermarket worker. The establishment did not reopen until around 4 p.m. In a press release, the mayor (LR) of Nice Christian Estrosi asked for "additional means" and an "immediate action plan to restore order", deeming the situation in the Moulins district "very worrying"

"If the state is no longer able to put in place the necessary means, let it entrust mayors who wish to be able to act more strongly," added the one who received the new interior minister. Gérald Darmanin in his city a few days after the reshuffle.

Already several settlements in the same district

At least two people have been shot and killed in the Moulins district in recent years in what appeared to the investigators to be settling of scores each time. In July 2015, a passerby was slightly injured.

Built in the 1960s and 1970s to accommodate workers, the HLM residences managed by Côte d'Azur Habitat aux Moulins are located in the heart of the Eco-Vallée, an urban development project west of Nice, where offices and new housing served by a new tram line are gradually emerging from the ground near the airport and a future Nice TGV Aéroport station.
