Simon has a developmental disorder and when he was two years old he received several diagnoses, including autism and epilepsy. For almost his entire life, he has had personal assistance because he needs help with almost everything in his everyday life. But two years ago, all assistance was withdrawn.

- According to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, he does not meet the requirement that you need assistance 20 hours a day. Instead, we are referred to the municipality, says Emma Mourujärvi, Simon's big sister.

The family sought assistance from Olofström municipality, but was denied last year.

- They want him to move into a group home. But it would not work for Simon who is a very active person, says Emma.

Denied assistance again

The municipality's decision was appealed immediately, but it took until now before the news came that their appeal had been rejected, and that Simon was once again denied assistance.

- It feels awful, we think he is entitled to his assistance. Simon was about to move away from home, but since he does not receive the assistance he is entitled to, it is not possible, says Charlotte Mourujärvi, Simon's mother.

The municipality of Olofström does not want to comment on the matter.

- We do not comment on individual cases due to confidentiality, says Robert Schelin, operations manager for Functional Support in Olofström municipality.

Will continue to appeal

The family will continue to fight for Simon's assistance despite their appeal being rejected.

- We will continue to appeal until he receives the assistance he is entitled to, Emma concludes.
