July 19, 2020 The first GP of the season in Jerez goes to Frenchman Fabio Quartararo, at his first MotoGP victory, ahead of Maverick Vinales' official Yamaha and Andrea Dovizioso's Ducati.

Quartararo starts on pole and precedes Maverick Vinales and Marc Marquez in the front row, while the first of the Italians is Francesco Bagnaia, fourth, with Dovizioso eighth and Rossi eleventh in qualifying, but tenth at the start for the retirement of Rins after the fall in Q2 he had already been considered unsuitable for the race following dislocation in his right shoulder with fracture of the head of the humerus. A few minutes from the start there is the Cal Crutchlow forfeit, which fell in the warm up.

At the start Vinales (Yamaha) immediately gains the first position followed by Marquez and between the two begins the duel with the Honda rider who has the better, but on the fifth lap Marc goes long even if at 150km / h he manages to keep the bike on the gravel. The world champion now needs a desperate comeback. Two Yamaha are in command, Quartararo is behind Vinales. Marc Marquez gradually goes up positions. A good Bagnaia (Ducati) remains fourth. On lap 13 Vinales goes wide, they put him in two: Quartararo and Miller (Ducati). Dovizioso also on Ducati rises to fifth place. Quartararo earns on Miller and seems to be master of the race. Meanwhile Bagnaia loses two positions in favor of Dovi and Espargaro (Ktm) while Vinales returns to second position, Marquez behind pulls like a madman and 9 laps from the end he enters hard on Morbidelli passing him and Bagnaia. The champion finds himself sixth and begins to hunt down Espargaro. Valentino Rossi's race ends at 7 laps, stopped on the track. Marquez does not seem human: 5 laps from the end he also overtook Miller and is third! But he demands too much and in the next lap he drops and has to say goodbye to the race. Dovizioso hit the penultimate lap: overtaking Miller and finishing third. Fifth place for Morbidelli, seventh Bagnaia, ninth Petrucci.
