The Ministry of Health and Community Protection organized a virtual graduation ceremony for the second batch of the program to support the competence of general practitioners in family medicine, the first of its kind in the country, aimed at supporting the current skills of general practitioners and honing their capabilities, to raise the quality of health care.

The first batch of the program started in 2018 with the participation of 51 doctors from different emirates of the country, while the second batch joined 33 doctors, and 13 of them were chosen in the program as trainers of family doctors, working to follow the doctors affiliated with the program, providing support and training them in various skills.

The assistant undersecretary for the health centers and clinics sector, Dr. Hussein Abdul Rahman Al-Rand, stressed at the opening of the ceremony, the importance of the program to support the competence of general practitioners in family medicine through its link to achieving the goals of a national indicator in the national agenda for the UAE vision 2021, dedicated to the number of family doctors per 1000 people, and therefore The Ministry launched this unique program in partnership with the World Health Organization, to increase knowledge and skills, avoid medical errors, and raise doctors ’productivity in accordance with international medical rules.

He pointed out that studies have shown a decline in negative health indicators and health care costs in countries that adopted the primary health care system and family medicine, which contributed to improving health indicators for society.

The Director of the Residency Program for Family Medicine, Dr. Haifa Fares, stated that the program to support the competence of general practitioners in family medicine is based on a full Emirati management of family medicine doctors, provided that it is part of the license of general practitioners in the Ministry of Health in the future.
