As early as the autumn of 2014, Region Skåne began a collaboration with the Stockholm Region and the Västra Götaland region to make a joint procurement of a cohesive digital care environment.

But after a decision by the regional board in October 2016, Skåne left the collaboration and decided to proceed with a procurement on its own because it was considered that the three regions had different needs and conditions.

Focused on American system

In September 2017, Region Skåne decided to accept a tender from the American company Cerner, specializing in IT and computer systems in healthcare.

An agreement between Region Skåne and Cerner was signed by the company's director Randy Simms on July 26, 2017. Just over seven months later, on Thursday, April 5, 2018, Skåne's regional director Alf Jönsson signed the agreement in London.

One of the country's largest IT projects

Region Skåne is Cerner's first customer in Sweden to purchase the company's healthcare information system.

SDV is described by the region as one of Sweden's largest digital projects ever. When the system is introduced, the separate medical record systems in primary and inpatient care will be replaced by a single system with a login, a medical record and a list of medicines.

Affects the entire population of Skåne

The system shall, among other things, consist of the patients' medical record information as well as platforms for connection of medical technology equipment and interconnection of various IT systems, communication with the inhabitants and work with population data.

In this way, the entire patient's "journey" through care must be able to be followed in the system.

SDV will handle data for Skåne's approximately 1.4 million inhabitants and be used by up to approximately 30,000 users working within Region Skåne.
