John Lewis, leader of the American Civil Rights Movement, died at the age of 80

  Overseas Network, July 18th-John Lewis, leader of the U.S. Black People's Rights Movement and Congressman of the Democratic Party of Georgia, died on the evening of 17th local time, at the age of 80.

  According to the New York Times, an official from the Democratic Party confirmed Lewis' death. Lewis announced on December 29 that his pancreatic cancer had entered the fourth stage and vowed to still fight racial inequality with the same enthusiasm. He said: "I have struggled for freedom, equality and basic human rights almost all my life."

  Lewis is a well-known civil rights person in the United States. In the 1960s, he joined the American Civil Rights Movement leader Martin Luther King to join the civil rights movement, and was the last living Martin Luther King civil rights speaker. (Overseas Net Li Fang)
