Transport experts emphasized that the degree of readiness of the global transportation sector in dealing with the Corona pandemic was 4 out of 10, and that the level of Dubai's transportation sector dealing with the crisis was close to the level of the response of advanced countries such as Taiwan and Singapore, although it was not previously exposed to the SARS crisis. Those countries were also exposed to it.

This came during a meeting of the Dubai Council for the Future of Transport, which was held via remote communication technology, chaired by the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, Matar Mohammed Al Tayer, with the participation of Council members from executives, experts and future consultants at the local and global levels.

During the meeting, they reviewed the global practices that were followed in dealing with the emerging corona virus (Covid 19) in the public transport sector, to ensure the protection of passengers and employees, and perceptions of the future of the post-Corona transport sector.

The meeting discussed the procedures followed by the authority in dealing with the crisis, which included applying global best practices according to UITP reports, to provide a safe and healthy environment for all, as the authority focused on three axes: cleansing and sterilization, protecting users and employees, and applying physical spacing in Stations and transportation.

And it succeeded in ensuring the continuity of providing its services to customers, thanks to its transformation into smart services provided via digital channels around the clock.

The meeting discussed the challenges brought about by the crisis on the transportation sector, and how to overcome them, as well as reviewing future opportunities and expected changes in the field of transportation after "Corona", where studies indicate that there will be an increase in trips through flexible means of transportation, and self-driving vehicles. Based on these data, the commission formulates future directions for the next stage, and updates future scenarios to suit the current situation.

Al Tayer praised at the end of the meeting the ideas and initiatives presented by members of the Dubai Council for the future of transport, which translate leadership directions in anticipating and identifying future challenges, and keeping pace with the rapid changes taking place in the field of transport.

It should be noted that the Dubai Future Transport Council is one of 13 councils within the Dubai Future Councils, which are supervised by the Dubai Future Foundation.
