Since the appointment to the Ministry of the Interior of Gérald Darmanin, targeted by a rape complaint, critics and questions have been raised. And after two weeks, the storm does not seem to want to calm down. A case that can become disabling, since it poisons slowly but surely one of the great causes of the quinquennium: equality between men and women.

ANALYSIS

Almost two weeks of controversy. Since Gérald Darmanin took up residence at the Ministry of the Interior on July 6, when he was the subject of a rape complaint, the government has faced numerous demonstrations and forums denouncing this choice. The executive may well block behind the new leader of the Beauvau place, like Emmanuel Macron during his interview of July 14, Jean Castex who denounces "unacceptable drifts", or more recently d 'Éric Dupond-Moretti, the case still begins to worry at the top of the state. Especially since it is slowly but surely poisoning the initiatives for gender equality of Emmanuel Macron.

"A risk of leafing"

In an interview, in the National Assembly, in the Senate ... the question of the appointment of Gérald Darmanin has come up tirelessly for the past 15 days, to the point that some begin to wonder if the accusations of rape against the "first cop of France "are not going to settle permanently in the landscape. "There is a risk of leafing, Emmanuel Macron and Jean Castex must stop talking about it," was thus alarmed at the microphone of Europe 1, an adviser.

Beyond the law, it is morality and probity that are in question.

The defense of the executive also seems to fall flat: when Emmanuel Macron poses on July 14 as "guarantor of the presumption of innocence", he hears that beyond the law, many question the moral to the probity of the former mayor of Tourcoing? Incredulous, a support of the palace even wonders "how the president could miss this". Because this controversy casts stigma on all of the government's action for gender equality, yet set up as a major cause of the Macron quinquennium. So a supporter tries to reassure himself: "If feminists know how to mobilize, we have to see if opinion follows [the Darmanin choice]."
