The U.S. Department of Defense has offered USFK reduction options to the White House, the Wall Street Journal quoted as saying by US officials on July 17 at local time.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the US Joint Forces reviewed the structure of the USFK as part of an extensive review of how to relocate and reduce US military presence around the world.

The USFK currently stands at 28,500, and the Wall Street Journal emphasized that the US Department of Defense's review came amid a deadlock in negotiations between South Korea and the United States for defense spending.

Earlier, President Trump said on the 15th of last month that he would cut US military forces in Germany to 25,000, saying that defense complaints were not limited to Germany, but to other countries.

However, a Pentagon official said, "No decision has been made to change the status of the US military in Korea." We are confident that we will maintain our ability to respond to any threat on the Korean Peninsula regardless of the outcome of the review."
