The mayor of Bouguenais (DVD) Sandra Impériale - J. Urbach / 20 Minutes

  • Sandra Impériale, 39, was recently elected mayor of Bouguenais.
  • Airport, layoffs at Airbus, controversial installation of Colas ... This town in the Nantes metropolitan area faces many challenges.

On June 28, the center-right candidate Sandra Impériale (supported by LREM) won the town hall of Bouguenais, anchored on the left since 1971, with nearly 53% of the vote. On the occasion of the first meeting of the Nantes Métropole council, which takes place this Friday, the 39-year-old city councilor answered questions from 20 Minutes about the many challenges that await his municipality and sometimes far beyond.

After 50 years of reign of the left, you have brought Bouguenais to the right…

I believe there was a response to a need for change. It is not a story of the right or the left, but our team, 90% composed of non-inserts, advocated values of pragmatism and renewal, even if I am aware of abstention. Many moderates voted for us because ecology, participative democracy or culture do not belong to anyone. I would not be ashamed to invest them, also on the scale of the metropolis where I will not be in systematic opposition.

Before, there will be a number of hot files, starting with the Colas factory that you don't want to see happen…

I will refuse to issue the building permit for this bitumen plant. Today, we do not know the cumulation of nuisances so I say it clearly: I am afraid that it is a cancer factory, and do not understand besides that the EELV movement of our commune is not in agreement with me. I am not against businesses but enough is enough: we already have the airport, the road to Pornic, the boiler room ... I do not want to be the mayor who does not protect its inhabitants!

Precisely, how do you intend to act on the question of the airport?

In the long term, we must always think about moving it and I will push on this subject with Mr. Lemasson [the mayor of Saint-Aignan]. In the short term, priority is the signing of the order prohibiting night flights. Then it will be necessary to negotiate the compensation fund as much as possible: the State has proposed well below what the local players are asking first to implement the soundproofing plan. A balance has to be struck between economic attractiveness and the protection of citizens. For people to want to settle in the town, less nuisance is needed.

Housing is also needed. However, you want to reduce the number of constructions planned by the metropolitan urban plan…

There is an in-between between the small suburban area and the over-densification with large concrete buildings. This desire for a city in the countryside is to be reinvented throughout the city. And then we cannot continue to build if we do not have the necessary equipment for the people who come to settle.

Bouguenais, it is also hundreds of layoffs that are announced ... How will you react?

I hope this figure will be lowered, but it is clear that I am afraid of bleeding. With Airbus, but also Hop… I couldn't do everything alone. In October, I would like to set up a committee to follow up on the economic crisis and will ask the city to help us create a platform linking those who are going to be unemployed with companies looking to recruit . We are going to have unemployed people, single-parent families in difficulty, some of whom we will have to spot. We have also already anticipated a possible redistribution of masks.

How do you see the future of the very crowded Pornic road?

Staying on two lanes seems completely surreal, and that would create completely congested routes to Bouguenais. What I want is a third lane dedicated to intermodality with carpooling, a future busway, and a secure space for bikes.

And that of the slum of Neustria?

This subject is one of the files that have been left aside and on which the residents are waiting for me at the turn. My goal is to draw inspiration from what has been done in Rezé: find a transition site in an industrial area, to relocate families little by little. We will be able to accommodate perhaps 70 people, but I would negotiate with the State services and the metropolis so that the other municipalities take their part in the care of these migrants from the East. As mayor, I will not sleep easy if I leave this land as it is.
