Prison institutions have refused to grant the third degree or open regime to Iñaki Urdangarin as proposed by the Treatment Board of the Brieva prison (Ávila), where he is serving a sentence in the Nóos case, prison sources have informed Efe.

By cons, permission is maintained for Felipe VI's brother-in-law to go out three times a week to volunteer at the Don Orione Home, located in the Madrid town of Pozuelo de Alarcón, an activity he carried out before the state of alarm and resumed in July. You may also be out of prison one weekend a month.

These measures, according to the sources consulted, must be ratified by the Valladolid Penitentiary Surveillance judge.

The General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions has ignored the proposal of the Brieva prison, which had four votes in favor of the third degree and another three to apply article 100.2 of the prison regulations to the inmate.

This is the article that allows the inmate to go outside to work without having to progress to the third grade and which Urdangarin benefited from when he began volunteering at the Don Orione Home.

Like any prisoner, King Felipe VI's brother-in-law is reviewed every six months. Since entering prison, Urdangarin remains in the second degree (ordinary), although with the aforementioned permits.

Last April the Palma Hearing revoked an order of the Valladolid Penitentiary Surveillance Court number 1 concerning Urdangarin and left without authorization the release from prison two weekends a month at a domicile set by the inmate.

Now, Correctional Institutions, taking into account that order and the different arguments of the members of the Brieva Treatment Board who voted for the open regime, has decided to allow him to go out for a weekend a month, but not to grant him the third degree.

Urdangarin entered prison on June 18, 2018 to serve a sentence of five years and ten months in prison for corruption offenses in the Nóos case.
