- It is biologists who go out and look at plants and animals for the nature value inventory that is to be included in the environmental impact assessment. They do no harm, says Agneta Molinder, press secretary at Vattenfall electricity distribution.

Fossil-free SSAB

The power line will run from Hedenlunda in the municipality of Flens to SSAB in Oxelösund so that the today fossil-fired blast furnace in the smelter can be operated with electricity instead. It is part of SSAB's goal to be completely fossil-free by 2045.

But the power line has aroused criticism in several places, including from municipalities, landowners and the Swedish Farmers' Association, LRF.

"Huge dimensions"

- It is about a power line of enormous proportions that we have hardly seen before, Johan Lagerholm, regional chairman of LRF Sörmland, has previously told SVT Sörmland.

At the end of last year, after investigations and consultations, it was clear which route Vattenfall wants the power line to have.

"The best solution", says Eva Vitell at Vattenfall about the route for the power line that the company is now advocating.

Agneta Molinder says that 80 percent of the environmental salary inventory has already been made, but that it has now been paused after protests from landowners.

- We have leaned towards the right of public access, we do not go into private plots. But now we will request preliminary investigation consent from the landowners. We are keen on a good dialogue.

No delay according to Vattenfall

If landowners do not say yes, Vattenfall will turn to the county administrative board, which can decide on a preliminary investigation permit.

Does this mean that the power line will be delayed?

- No, we will send in our application to build the power line to the Energy Market Inspectorate this autumn, regardless. If we need to wait for a decision from the county administrative board, we will do the remaining part of the inventory next summer and write in our application that that part will be supplemented, says Agneta Molinder.

What happens next?

- When the Energy Market Inspectorate has received all the material regarding the application, a referral will go out to all landowners where they have a chance to comment.
