It was on Monday night, near Wieselgrensplatsen on Hisingen in Gothenburg, that the suspected 23-year-old must have suddenly appeared and tried to lift the baby from the stroller of the woman who was foreign to him. The mother and a witness at the scene must then have reacted and tried to stop the man. The child was strapped to the pram with a harness.

- It is a bit unclear exactly how everything happens. The man is confused and affected and lifts the child. But the harness stops him. And the mother tells him to stop, quite simply, prosecutor Jim Westerberg says.

The stranger leaves the mother, the witness and the child in the pram and disappears from the scene. Shortly afterwards, the police arrest the now suspected man nearby, and at night he is arrested.

The defense: "Rather harassment"

On Thursday, the man was arrested on probable cause on suspicion of attempted unlawful deprivation of liberty. The suspect neither denies nor confirms that he has lifted the child. But his lawyer believes that the crime should rather be classified as a nuisance, and not an attempt at unlawful deprivation of liberty.

- Then it would have required an intention. If you look at the big picture, there are testimonies that indicate that he has behaved very confused and strange earlier in the day. He has not been aware of his actions, and it is obvious that he did not want to take the child with him, says Abraham Zeito.
