Dubai Electricity and Water Authority recently announced that the percentage of clean energy in the energy mix increased to 9%, exceeding that set in the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to produce 7% of energy in Dubai from clean sources by 2020, and reach 75% by 2050 .

The authority is considered one of the pioneering institutions in setting programs and launching initiatives concerned with the environment and reducing carbon emissions, as the total production capacity of the authority is currently 11,700 megawatts of electricity, of which 1,013 megawatts with solar PV technology from the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Complex, the largest solar energy complex on World level.

The total capacity of projects under implementation in the complex is 1,850 MW with PV panels and CSP technologies, with further future phases to reach 5,000 MW by 2030.

The Authority’s efforts contributed to a significant decrease in carbon emissions in Dubai, where the net carbon dioxide emissions in the Emirate of Dubai decreased to about 19% by the end of 2018, two years before the target date in the carbon emissions reduction strategy 2021 to reduce emissions by 16% By 2021.
