"Had I been a year older, I would have come in"

Today, the University and College Council presented its analysis of the admissions to the autumn educations. The application pressure has increased significantly, by 13 percent from the autumn term 2019. And the largest increase is in the age group 19 years and younger, where the number of applicants has increased by 30%.

- It is very tough competition for all the jobs you can take right after high school, then it feels safer to start studying, says 19-year-old Elin Riis.

For Elin Riis, the increased admission score means that she did not get the education she had intended - the biomedicine program at Uppsala University.

- If I had been a year older and applied last year, I would have come in. But it still feels okay, I will probably start the pharmacy program instead, she says.
