The party's candidate Rafal Trzaskowski was narrowly beaten by incumbent President Andrzej Duda, who is close to the National Conservative government party Law and Justice (PIS).

In its submission to the country's highest court, the Citizens' Platform addresses alleged problems with voter registration, ballot papers that were not sent out on time and voting abroad.

- We have requested that the election result be declared invalid, says party leader Boris Budka, who believes that "the entire state apparatus broke the law".

Accuses public service companies of bias

In addition, the Citizens' Platform accuses the public service company TVP of bias, a claim that is supported by OSCE election observers. The co-operation organization calls TVP's election observation "homophobic, xenophobic and anti-Semitic" and with a strong bias in Duda's favor.

The Citizens' Platform's appeal comes on the same day as the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties warns of a 'continued dismantling of democracy' in Poland and calls on the Member States to initiate proceedings against the country.
