"Hong Kong's affairs are entirely China's internal affairs, which does not allow any interference from outsiders in any way, with any excuse," it said in a statement on the embassy's website, published on Wednesday.

"Any attempt by outsiders to put pressure on China will fail, and only harm themselves."

During the EU's foreign ministers' meeting on Monday, Linde joined a proposal from several EU countries for measures in response to the Security Act - including a possible export ban on certain products. She has previously said that the security law "contradicts China's international commitments".

Ann Linde refuses to comment on the statement via her press secretary.
