The Asian Football Confederation announced on Thursday that Qatar will host the AFC Champions League matches for the popular game in the western continent this year.

The AFC Champions League matches were suspended last March due to the global health crisis of the Corona Virus, and will resume in Qatar on September 14.

The AFC said the game last week that the group stage matches will be played in the league system as planned without change, provided that the following roles are played starting from the round of 16 from one game and the knockout system.

The countries that will participate in West Asia matches are Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran and Uzbekistan.

The venue for the East Asian Games, which will begin on October 16, has not been decided yet.

Clubs from East Asia, China, Thailand, Australia, South Korea, Japan and Malaysia participate in East Asian matches.

"The member states have before it until 24 July 2020 to apply to host the AFC Champions League matches in the east of the continent," the continental union said in a statement.

In the two designated locations to host the matches in the east and west of the continent, the matches will be held until the semi-finals, with the final match between the two section champions held on December 5 at the western headquarters for the matches.
