If there was no miracle, Barcelona's grip on the Primera Liga title this year has escaped, amid anger within the club and among the fans, with a clear sense that the team has kept their title too.

Barcelona were on the way to their third consecutive title when the competition resumed in June, but it drew 3 times in 9 games, while Real Madrid did not lose any points at the same time, and it needed two points in the last two rounds for the coronation.

"If we lose the championship, it is because we left it to slip away," Barcelona striker Luis Suarez told Sport.

"We can search for excuses and refer to what happened in other games (which Real Madrid played), but we must realize that the title escaped from our hands because of our mistakes."

Points began bleeding when Barcelona tied 0-0 at Sevilla, followed by a 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo, who is threatened with relegation, then at the same result with Atletico Madrid.

"We lost a great opportunity because if we had beaten Celta, the situation would have been better against Atletico. The real blow was in Vigo and (Iago) Aspas's goal in the last minute. It was very painful," Suarez said.

Messy season

The chaotic season began with a defeat against Athletic Bilbao, and saw the coach change and a scandal affecting the club president, and it is possible that Barcelona ends the domestic season without a title for the first time since 2007-2008.

Lionel Messi, anger, appears to be on the rise, criticizing Athletic Director Eric Abidal in January and the administration in March for her handling of the salary cut problem.

It seems that the dismissal of coach Ernesto Valverde last January despite the league lead was a big mistake.
Barcelona may not have presented his great style with Valverde but he led the team to the last two league titles by a large margin, and was loved by the big players.

His replacement, Kiki Sittin, was not the club's first choice, and although the 61-year-old coach loved the attacking ball, the transformation under his supervision did not go well.

It seemed that the team's style was expected and he did not perform a strong performance only once in his 4-1 victory over Villarreal, while Sittin admitted that he was unable to deal with the needs of the prominent players in the team.

And before the team's last home match this season in the league against Osasuna, Sittin blamed the lack of a title, but he attributed the greater part of that to Real Madrid's career.

"I take some responsibility, but not all of it. These evaluations always focus on the coach, but I don't feel like I managed this badly because of our 3-game draw," he concluded.
