The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai said that the Kuwaiti media prosecution has kept the detention of Kuwaiti activist Reem Al-Shammari on charges of insulting an Arab country, after a series of tweets and videos that carried abuse to Egypt.

The Kuwaiti media prosecution had ordered the activist to be arrested and subjected to investigations, on the background of clips on social media that offended one of the sister Arab countries, according to the Kuwaiti newspaper, Al-Anbaa.

According to a security source for the newspaper, the media prosecutor received a report about the activist, as she summoned her yesterday and discussed it with what she mentioned in her videos, especially a clip that was published more than a month ago.

The source said: After investigations that extended for hours, a decision was issued to detain her until today.

The Kuwaiti blog, Reem Al-Shammari, caused a sensation on social media, after she criticized foreign workers in her country, and published Al-Shammari a video clip demanding the expulsion of the Egyptian community from Kuwait.

On the other hand, Egyptian and Kuwaiti social media pioneers posted tweets confirming Reem Al-Shammari's detention for her abuse of Egypt and Egyptians in Kuwait through video clips that she used to publish on her official accounts on social media.

According to the tweeters, these videos contain phrases and expressions that offend the Egyptians, claiming that they love their homeland Kuwait, and these videos sparked angry reactions, amid calls for her arrest, and several reports were submitted against her requesting that she be legally held accountable for what she published.

Some of the sons of Kuwait came out in response to these videos, defending the Egyptian community in Kuwait, and asserting that Egypt and Kuwait are one people and the relations that unite them are historic and cannot be compromised.
